SUMMARY:Louis: The New York Story
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 400th anniversary of New York City being founded\, and the Louis Armstrong House Museum wants to join the celebration by highlighting stories of Louis in New York. This presentation will gather vital archival material of memorable performances in important venues of the city such as Carnegie Hall\, The Town Hall\, and The Apollo\, as well as historic concerts\, including an appearance with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Leonard Bernstein. \nWe will revisit both iconic spaces and places that no longer exist\, bringing back their valuable play in the history of the city. \nFinally\, some stories recollecting pinnacle recording sessions will be enlightening when painting a portrait of the Artist and his relationship with music itself and other musicians. \nJoin us on September 13th at 1:00pm for a free session. Reserve your spot today!

SUMMARY:Louis Armstrong Collage Animation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Jun 19\, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.\nLocation: William Fox Amphitheater – Museum of the Moving Image\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the Louis Armstrong House Museum (LAHM)\, we present a Collage Animation Workshop led by LAHM’s Director of Community Engagement Charanya Ramakrishnan and co-facilitated by Tiffany Joy Butler\, Associate Curator of Public Programs at Museum of the Moving Image. Inspired by the collage art of Louis Armstrong\, this free workshop invites you to dive into the vibrant world of collage-making and storytelling. Bring together images\, textures\, and text\, and animate your story to create something uniquely your own.  \nThis workshop is inspired by the artistic excellence of jazz legend Louis Armstrong\, who was not only a musical icon but also a prolific collage artist. He used photographs\, letters\, promotional materials\, newspaper articles\, and more to create art on the walls of his home\, in scrapbooks\, and on more than 500 reel-to-reel tape boxes.  \nThis program is presented as part of MoMI’s Celebrate Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a holiday which commemorates the official end of slavery in the U.S. During a period of legal segregation\, jazz was an important form of resistance and expression\, originating in Black communities of New Orleans where Louis Armstrong was born.
