Regina Bain Receives Teiger Foundation Grant to Launch ‘Armstrong in Ghana’ Exhibition

Latest update • September 23, 2025

We are thrilled to announce that our Executive Director, Regina Bain has received a Teiger Foundation grant to support Armstrong in Ghana for 3 years.

Armstrong in Ghana, commemorates the 70th anniversary of Louis Armstrong’s landmark visit to Accra in the midst of the American civil rights movement and the Ghanaian independence movement.

Debuting in both countries in 2026/2027, the exhibition engages contemporary artists to respond to Armstrong, not only as a musician, but as a creative individual whose work drew in the public consciousness to get involved in pressing issues across the African diaspora.

We are among 85 curators and 54 institutions across the US to receive a grant through the Foundation’s Call for Proposals, supporting innovative curatorial projects in contemporary art, from landmark artist surveys and overlooked archives to ecological histories and diasporic networks. The grants fund a full range of curatorial activities, including conducting research, mounting exhibitions, hosting touring shows, and realizing three years of programming.

Congrats to all of the 2025!
