New Exhibit: The Corona Collection

Latest update • September 23, 2025

The Louis Armstrong House Museum is proud to announce the debut of The Corona Collection, an exciting new exhibition bringing Louis and Lucille Armstrong to life through the voices of the neighbors who knew them best. Through oral histories gathered from the Corona community and beyond, this project preserves cherished memories, heartfelt stories, and neighborhood histories, offering a unique and intimate perspective on the Armstrongs’ lives in their own community.

While the world knows Louis Armstrong as one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, at home he was simply “Uncle Louie” to the children who grew up around him. These firsthand accounts provide a rare glimpse into the daily life, warmth, and generosity that he and Lucille shared with their neighbors, highlighting the deep and lasting impact they had on Corona. For many contributors, this is the first time their stories are being shared publicly.

Aligned with the Museum’s mission of community engagement, The Corona Collection exhibition celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of the neighborhood, fostering intergenerational connections and preserving voices for future generations. The oral histories will also become part of the Armstrong Archives, supporting research and education for years to come.

This initiative was made possible through a 2024 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and in 2025, visitors will have the opportunity to experience these remarkable stories firsthand.

Join us starting October 2, 2025, and step into the vibrant world of Louis and Lucille Armstrong, as remembered by the community that loved them.
